Governors

In common with all schools, Charlton Primary School has a Governing Body, whose members share responsibility for strategic leadership of the school with the head teacher and senior management team.  The following links are intended to explain a bit more about who we are and what we do. If you have any other questions please feel free to email one of the Governors.

What do we do?

The purpose of our Governing Body is to help the school provide the best possible education for all pupils at Charlton by:

  • Setting the school's values, vision and strategic aims, agreeing plans and policies, and making creative use of resources.
  • Monitoring and evaluating performance, acting as a 'critical friend' to the head teacher to support and challenge her in managing the school.
  • Ensuring that the school is accountable to the children and parents that we serve, to our local community, to those who fund and maintain the school, as well as to the staff we employ.

To help us achieve this we are organised into 2 main committees, each with a specific focus:

  • Curriculum, Communication and Parents, focusing on the educational aspects.
  • Finance, Premises and Staffing focusing on the administrative aspects.

Typically each committee formally meets 6 times per year (once per term), as does the Full Governing Body.  Certain Governors also have special responsibilities for:

  • Governor Skills
  • Child Protection
  • Special Educational Needs
  • Health and Safety

From time to time we also form working parties with a focus on achieving specific aims. Past working parties have helped introduce the revised Homework Policy, and the After School Club.
